All you need to know about the Amazon–Salesforce partnership

It’s an exciting time for Salesforce. Not only has the platform just announced a major overhaul with hundreds more functions due for release in the spring, it has also recently partnered with Amazon – the world’s largest online retailer with growth expected throughout the course of 2017.

What is the Amazon-Salesforce Partnership?

Announced in the spring of 2016, Amazon Web Service and Salesforce signed an agreement that Salesforce would supply AWS with its future cloud service needs. The package included Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, App Cloud and many other cloud services on the platform. The two organisations had been collaborating on projects for years, but the new deal included expansion of and into the Cloud services for which Salesforce is known. In turn, Salesforce announced that AWS would become its preferred provider for public cloud services. Both organisations will benefit from the partnership, which formalises and expands on a number of key areas. How Will It Impact Salesforce?

The deal is mutually beneficial. Salesforce is the world’s leading SaaS package and needs a solid, trustworthy infrastructure in order to run its Cloud services and deliver new content. AWS is a proven infrastructure that can help Salesforce achieve precisely what it needs and wants to achieve.

Earlier in 2016, Amazon made a surprise announcement that it would expand into using Salesforce’s CRM SaaS. While many had previously expected AWS to use Microsoft Azure, it was a great coup for Salesforce that can only benefit the organisation as they look to expand into public Cloud services.

Customers need not worry, as Salesforce will simply use AWS for some of its new developments and applications. Indeed, they have already said that they will use AWS for a “select number of international markets.”

How Will It Impact Amazon?

Amazon is looking to expand into the Cloud market and needs a reliable SaaS to continue to deliver to its existing customers on a system that is recognisable, supported and trusted. It’s a great deal for both companies in this regard. Amazon has aggressively pursued new markets in recent years, moving away from a pure internet retail angle and into the video on demand service (Amazon Prime is a major contender against Netflix). It was reported in the WSJ that AWS is now the most profitable arm of the Amazon brand with a 64% increase in revenue last year. The impact for Amazon is that it can now reach out to more people on a recognised platform and increase further its market share.

How Will It Impact Salesforce Customers?

As a Salesforce customer, you might wonder how this will affect you – if at all. The fact is that there are many benefits and you don’t have to have an association with Amazon to benefit. Salesforce now uses AWS to deliver new infrastructures in their platform into the Cloud quicker and more efficiently than ever before. There will be no scaling back of their services to you as Salesforce will continue its investment in its own services, it will just do so in partnership with AWS for some areas.

You can expect Salesforce and its providers to continue delivering trusted software that remains just as secure and reliable as ever before. Regardless of your infrastructure, your Cloud Computing solution will remain available and one of the best solutions out there.
