The role of a Salesforce administrator

aidem - 16th February 2017 - 0 comments

Salesforce is the world’s best-known leading Cloud Computing solution. Although it is most famous for being a superb CRM, it has a number of other solutions too including app development. While taking the decision to use Salesforce is certainly the right choice for any business, you will also need to take care in selecting the correct administrator. What sort of things should you look for when choosing your Salesforce administrator?

Administration Skills

There are several important things to consider when choosing the right Salesforce Administrator. IT acumen is one, but there are others to consider first. Your chosen administrator needs the ability and understanding of the need for continuing development, to identify the need for ongoing database debugging, the development of your dashboard and general clean-up. These things certainly need IT skills, but they are not the be all and end all. What is more important is the understanding of the available support administrative tasks.

Training Provision

As you will use Salesforce for a variety of tasks and hopefully, integrate it fully into your business, the role of an administrator is to ensure your employees receive as much training as necessary. A good Salesforce Administrator will not only implement training but ensure that it is as up to date as it needs to be in-line with your business needs and new standards. They will also keep you aware of upcoming system changes and anticipate changes in your training needs, making recommendations where necessary.

Commitment to Growth

IT skills are required, but more important are core business skills and the understanding of your needs. A good Salesforce Administrator adapts to your changing needs, but also anticipates your growth and requirements day to day, month to month and year to year. A Salesforce system that may have been sufficient two years ago may be inadequate now. We aim to keep you abreast with changes and understand your core mission, providing suggestions and solutions in line with your growth desires. This requires flexibility and understanding Salesforce functional capabilities.

To Understand Client Needs

All the technical knowledge in the world is for nothing if the Salesforce Administrator does not listen and cannot provide the service that works for the client. This means both business understanding and knowledge of the available systems within the Salesforce platform. A good Salesforce Administrator is a great brand ambassador for Salesforce as well as an employee of the administrator. Further, he, she or they require analytical skills and problem-solving abilities – seeing your issues and adjusting accordingly.

Communication Skills

The end user will often have enough knowledge of Salesforce to use it and to perform simple problem-solving activities. They will not have in-depth technical knowledge. Nor will they understand the processes that go into building a Salesforce app or CRM. However, in some cases they may require a little more understanding along with information. It is the role of a Salesforce Administrator to communicate solutions to common problems. Written and verbal communication are both essential, as is a desire and a skill to speak in layman’s terms for a non-technical audience.
